In order to help contextualize the apparent starting from scratch involved in learning Bluebook after mastering ALWD, I found a couple of documents to be very helpful in laying out the differences. I've made them available
here and
here.
For those who will be taking Property with Professor Ng next semester, we will be using the following casebook:
Property (6th ed.), by Dukeminier, Krier, Alexander and Schill. Aspen Publishers.
Merry Christmas everyone!
For those wanting to get a jump on ordering books for next semester, here's the list for Legal Writing:
The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (18th edition)
Interactive Citation Workbook for Bluebook (2007 edition)
Persuasive Written & Oral Advocacy (Fontham, Vitiello, & Miller 2nd ed)
Practicing Persuasive Written & Oral Advocacy: Case File III (Miller, Vitiello, & Fontham 1st ed 2005)
The Redbook: A Manual on Legal Style (Bryan Garner 2nd ed)
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and congrats on one semester down!
Will be discussing
this exam after lunch.
For Wednesday's study session on Contracts, we'll use
this exam.
I've compiled some materials for our Civil Procedure study group.
Here is a practice exam to go over before the group meeting. It was the final exam given in 2005 at William and Mary College. The answers and rationale are in a different document located
here. In addition, the professor that gave that exam has a running list of questions from his students along with his answers. That document is very helpful and can be found
here.
Hello all. I hope everyone is making it through the first week without any thoughts of turning back. I know it's tough but I promise it does get a little easier...if it didn't I probably wouldn't still be here :) Please remember that if any of you have any problems or questions I am more than willing to help out all I can. Also, if anyone is interested, I'm inviting everyone to Fenian's Irish Pub around 11:30 on Friday to talk about the week and just let off a little steam. My law firm made this a weekly tradition last year and it proved to be a great idea. Hope to see all of you there!
Directions to Fenian's: From the school take a left on State St. Make a right on Fortification St. The pub is one light down on the left. Parking in the rear.
If you have tried to sign up for TWEN, you have found a problem; we have not yet received our password cards from the library. Jason Spray, our rep from Westlaw has informed me that we should be receiving these on Monday. Hopefully, this will not be a disadvantage as our professors are expecting up to have the syllabi printed and read by then.
Welcome to the new website for the student law firm, The Not-So-Dirty Dozen!
This site aims to be a gathering place for thoughts and ideas for our small group. It is designed to help share ideas and documents and generally help us get through this first year of law school! As this site matures there will be a discussion forum, a group calendar, an email listserv, an outline bank, and even a catalog of member-contributed case briefs, class notes, and any other documents or files that could benefit the group.
So please bookmark this site, check back often, and feel free to contribute (once things get rolling, that is!)
